Verizon’s Samsung Gem spotted ahead of release

We’re focused more on bringing you an awesome new destination for tech news and information than on anything else… but when we get a little scoop, we’re not just going to file it away. We’ve still got that killer instinct, after all!

The Samsung Gem is already available on a few regional carriers, bringing up the low end of the Android spectrum with a WQVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, and Froyo — nothing that’s going to get your blood boiling, unless you’re into oddly-shaped home buttons. Anyhow, word on the street is that it could be announced for Verizon soon (after having been leaked as early as September of last fricking year), and these fresh shots of the branded device in the wild would certainly lend credence to that rumor.

Note: Folks have written in to let us know that a few third-party retailers have already started taking deliveries of the Verizon-branded Gem, but evidence this week is pointing to a release through at least some of Big Red’s first-party sales channels in the near future, too. Stay tuned!
